About Me

I was born and raised in the northern-most-southern-city of Louisville, Kentucky. The daughter of a thoroughbred horse trainer, I love all things related to the Kentucky Derby: big hats, fast horses, and mint julep cups.

After completing a broadcasting degree at Western Kentucky University, I worked in WKU’s media relations office for over five years. At WKU I was fortunate to work under an incredible mentor, Dr. Gary Ransdell. I learned about higher education administration, strategic planning, story conceptualization, and new media development. While at WKU I also completed a MAE in counseling and student affairs, through which I had fantastic internship and practicum experiences with WKU’s Office of Enrollment Management and Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching, as well as a teaching opportunity with WKU’s University Experience department.

I left WKU, in tears thanks to so many wonderful memories and people, to pursue a fabulous opportunity “back home” in Louisville with the Oldham County Board of Education. As their communications director, I served as the chief spokesperson for the district, wrote press releases, redesigned their award winning website, enhanced my photography skills, and learned a tremendous deal about myself as a communications professional.

I left Oldham County to move to Lexington, Kentucky with my husband, and I currently work with the students of the Gatton College of Business & Economics at the University of Kentucky. I am the primary point of contact for all prospective Gatton students. In May of 2012 I will complete my MFA in creative writing through Eastern Kentucky University.
